Tips & Advice
When you’re thinking about a specific locale for your destination wedding, you might want to plan a scouting trip to your destination well in advance of your big day to make sure it’s the perfection place to say “I do.” It can be an enjoyable and romantic trip for the two of you, or even a getaway for you and your parents, yet you can still get a lot done while you’re onsite and checking out what will be available to you.
Whether you’re in the states or traveling to the Caribbean or other exotic locales, the things you need to do to get things ready for your wedding are pretty much the same. You’ll want to locate key vendors for your service and reception, local hotels, florists, caterers and photographers, for example. Shop and compare to get the best quality for your budget, check the quality of the hotel you have in mind and what services they might be able to offer you. Taste test the food and especially the cake, and make sure you are comfortable with your choices.
Usually, the hotel staff can give you an idea of who does the most weddings in the area, or you may even have friends who have pointed you to the vendors they used for their wedding or event. If you need a wedding planner to coordinate things onsite, now is the time to interview them, check their references, and make sure their idea of your perfect wedding matches the one you have.
And don’t forget to get your hair and makeup done if you want to use someone local to get you ready for your walk down the aisle (or beach, as the case may be). See how the weather and climate affects your skin and hair, your appetite and even your mood. Now is the time to find all these things out, so there aren’t any unexpected surprises to ruin your perfect day.
Then think about other things you might need. Can you find the same makeup, nail polish and hosiery you are using, just in case? Is there a local grocery or convenience store nearby, in case you want to make welcome bags for your attendants, parents and/or guests? Can you buy your bridesmaid and groomsmen gifts there so you don’t have to pack them to bring with you? See what the local crafts are. In many places, you can find beautiful jewelry, clothing accessories and even artwork that will easily fit in your bridesmaid’s and groomsmen’s bags on their way home.
This is your wedding, and it’s all about helping you be stress-free and ready for anything when the time comes. Once you’ve done your homework on your destination wedding, you can relax and breathe, knowing everything will be well in hand when you arrive with your groom and your beautiful white dress. Enjoy your wedding and your guests will do the same. |
