How to look your best for your destination wedding

The dress is ready and your airline tickets are in hand. You’re almost ready for your destination wedding. So what’s left to think about?

You.
You want to look your best, smile your prettiest and take the best photos you’ve ever been in. So it’s time to get you ready. First, you have to decide where to have your hair and possibly makeup done. Are you bringing someone with you? If you’re going to someplace like Hawaii, the Caribbean or Mexico, probably not, unless you have a stylist in your family or close circle of friends. So you need to focus on what you want done before you run out of time.

It’s always good to do a dry run with hair, makeup and nails. If you’re going to have your hair colored, try the color out a couple of months ahead of time so there are no surprises when you come out from under the dryer. Find a style you like and see if it works with your face AND your dress. You don’t want overly fussy curls with an elegantly simple dress. So try out your color and style beforehand, so you have time to make changes before you go.

And then there’s your makeup. Are you having it done by someone local to your destination wedding, or are you going to do it yourself? Again, this is the time to try out new colors and products. You don’t want a product that gives you an allergic reaction or liner that makes you look Goth (unless, of course, that’s the look you’re going for). If you’re going to do your own makeup, visit a local makeup counter where the salespeople can show you how to use the makeup you have or what to get to give you the look you want.

Get your nails done at least once in advance, too, to find the perfect shade of polish and make sure your nails look healthy and beautiful when you walk down the aisle. Coordinate your polish with your flowers or the bridesmaids dresses or something that will tie your whole look into the theme of your wedding. And don’t forget to pamper your feet with a pedicure and lots of lotion for those strappy sandals or barefoot beach weddings.

And always do a dress rehearsal (or two) with hair, makeup and manicure well enough before the wedding to let you change your mind.

Take care of your skin to avoid breakouts and blemishes. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin and hair hydrated and in the best shape possible, so when you’re ready to travel, you’re ready for anything. This wedding is your day to sparkle, so make sure you’ve already practiced so everything will be perfect for your destination wedding.
