5 Steps to Start Planning your Destination Honeymoon

Planning your honeymoon should involve the same amount of care as you spend on your destination wedding. Putting things in place well in advance helps you be stress-free and more able to enjoy the aftermath of your big day.

Here are 5 steps to help you get started:

1. When calling hotels and resorts, let them know you’re booking for your honeymoon. If it’s in the same place as your destination wedding, they’ll sometimes offer a package that includes both things, as an incentive to hold your destination wedding there, so you’ll save money and time. If it’s not the same place as your wedding, let them know anyway, because a lot of hotels and resorts offer specials perks or discounts to honeymooning couples.

2. Consider a package deal with airfare and hotel included. Packages might include extras like limo service or car rentals. Book as early as you can to get the best rates.

3. Check for special weekday rates at your hotel – most hotels discount Sunday through Thursday nights, depending on the time of year, because they’re busier on the weekends and the rates go up.

4. See if there is a meal plan included or additional. Even if your hotel only offers a continental breakfast, it can help you with your budget and you can enjoy other things at your destination with the money you’ll save on breakfast.

5. Go to your local library and look for updated travel guides and magazines for the locations you’re considering, to give you an idea about accommodations, activities and other services offered at each so you have a good knowledge of your choices before you settle on your destination wedding location.

6. Last, but not least, be a careful and savvy shopper. Like any other service you need for your wedding, you may want to compare prices, ask for references and, if possible, do a scouting visit to at least your most desirable location. Make sure you like it well enough to get married and spend your honeymoon there.

A lot of your planning and even booking can be done over the internet, saving you time and phone bills. There are lots of resources to help you decide where you want to go and the best way for you to get there. Involve friends and family in helping you find the perfect place, and remember to thank them for suggestions and any tips they offer. Some may have personal experience or even books and travel guides they might lend to help you make this important decision.

Most of all, have fun planning, and enjoy your destination wedding. Once the wedding is over and you and your groom are ready to be alone to enjoy your wedded bliss, you’ll be glad you got everything set up in advance. You’ve planned every detail of not only your destination wedding, but the memorable honeymoon to follow – so enjoy your time together without worry.
