Tips & Advice
Every bride wants to look her best for her wedding, and there are easy ways to make getting in shape part of your wedding planning. Whether your destination wedding is in Montana or Mexico, you’ll want to look your best, not just in the wedding gown of your dreams, but in that snowsuit or swimsuit you’ll be showing off before and after your wedding walk.
Your wedding dress is on the hanger and you’re trying to find ways to make sure it still fits by “the day.” You’ve got lots and lots to do, and parties and dinners to go to, so how’s a girl supposed to keep her waistline slim when she can’t get to the gym? Let your wedding be your workout.
There will be trips to the bridal shops, the florist, the photographer and the bakery, among all the other things you’ll be organizing for your perfect wedding. Walking is one of the best, low-impact ways to get in shape and stay in shape, so use these errands to help keep you fit in body and in mind.
First, don’t forget your walking shoes. Make sure they’re comfortable and easy to walk in, and wear cotton socks to keep your feet from sweating. Find a parking spot that gives you plenty of space to walk, whether it’s a block or a mile. Take the steps instead of the elevator or escalator. If none of this will work, and you don’t have one, think about investing in a treadmill to use at home when you’re working on planning your wedding. You can walk while listening to the music you want, reading books or magazines or even watching The Travel Channel to figure out where your perfect destination wedding might be.
Running works if you’re already into it. If not, you’ll want to start slowly, with walking. It’s something you and your significant other can do together. Run in the park, at the track or on that treadmill we were just talking about. Walking and running are both exercises that release your mind and thoughts, so you can plan in your head while your body is moving. You’ll be amazed by how far you’ve gotten, walking/running AND planning.
Swimming is a good exercise to get you or keep you in shape, but you’ll need a pool. If you live in a complex with an indoor pool, you’re all set. Otherwise, you may have to join a gym or visit your local YMCA.
Exercising as a couple is a great way to be together and still get something done. You can find all kinds of couple exercises in books and on the Internet, so find a routine that works for you both. It will not only keep you in shape, but it will help you both relax before the big day.
Eating right is always an important part of any plan to stay fit. Preparing delicious and good food at home is a great way to learn how to work together in the kitchen. Make sure you include plenty of fruits and vegetables, and drink plenty of fluids. When your wedding day rolls around, you’ll be ship-shape and ready to go. |
