Destination-themed Centerpieces for Your Destination Wedding
You’ve nailed down the perfect venue for the destination wedding of your dreams. You have the dress, the ring, the love of your life. Time to start the planning! What about the décor? Centerpieces are the focal point of your reception; they decorate the places where your guests will spend most of their time. These tips and ideas can help you make your décor match your vision of the perfect wedding.

  1. Find a theme that you feel represents the things that you love about the location of your destination wedding, and make your centerpieces fit within that theme. Pin down your favorite thing about the place, such as a color or a part of the local culture, and try to work it in.
  2. You and your fiancé should use the centerpieces as a way to say something about how special your relationship is and to show off your unique taste. You want them to really reflect you so that you are happy with the way the reception venue looks.
  3. You don’t want to overdo the theme or any one element, however. Sometimes the simplest statements are the most dramatic and eye-catching.
  4. Keep the overall tone of your wedding in mind when choosing centerpieces. A fun centerpiece might not work for a very formal destination wedding, and likewise, you wouldn’t want to weigh down a lighthearted, casual reception with severe floral arrangements.

These pointers are a great jumping off point, but keep in mind that there is no right or wrong when it comes to creating your dream destination wedding; it is all about making your vision come to life. With these tips in mind, here are a few ideas for centerpieces designed to suit the most popular destination wedding locations:

If your wedding is a beach wedding, why not fill some glass hurricanes with sand and seashells and accent the table around with candles for a soft glow rather than using traditional flowers? For shimmer, work pearls into the mix as well.

For a wedding in the mountains, incorporate foliage from the area. For a winter wedding, pinecones and even twigs can be combined with crystals or arranged with flowers or candles to mimic the icy shine of snow in the forest.

If your wedding is in Mexico, who not work some of those hot Latin colors into your flowers? Or even pay homage to the culture and work in some of the romantic Mexican wedding traditions, such as the 13 Gold Coins. You could dangle them from a more ornate floral arrangement to give a little extra shine with a special meaning to share with your guests.

For your Hawaiian wedding, drape leis on the table around candlesticks or tall arrangements of hibiscus to achieve the perfect tropical feel and to tie in an aspect of the culture with which all guests are likely familiar.

The possibilities are truly limitless, so let your creative side take over when planning what to use as centerpieces. Don’t be afraid to branch out and go a little non-traditional if it is what you want. It is your special day, after all, and you want it to be just as perfect as you always imagined it would be!
