Dressing your bridesmaids for a destination wedding

You’ve decided on a beach wedding, a Caribbean wedding or a trip to Hawaii. Now’s the time to figure out what your bridesmaids will wear to complete your wedding theme. A sunny beach wedding calls for bright colors like tropic flowers. Brilliant blues to echo the ocean, fuchsia or yellow to mimic island flowers, and the deep greens of palm leaves and fertile fields will give your beach or island wedding a tropical flair.

It doesn’t have to be the traditional long gown, either. Lengths from long to ultra short can fit in with your special beach or island style, with anything from pretty sarongs in vibrant colors to dramatic long dresses in shades of red or purple. Pick a fabric that will go with your surroundings, blow with the breezes and keep your girls comfortable as the wedding goes on. The dresses should fit well but be cool enough for the day, yet with enough weight to withstand the night ocean breezes as your party goes into the evening. Sandals or even bare feet can complete your island style.

An evening beach wedding can use the jewel tones of the tropics, or go softer, showing the hazy shades of the setting sun and firelit evenings. Pale blues and pinks, soft yellows and greens, even beiges and tans are perfect to soften the setting against your white wedding gown. Linens and cottons are perfect for an island or beach wedding, light yet comfortable, and you can find any color you like.

If you want a destination wedding that’s a little more traditional, why not stop at an island like St. Lucia for your destination wedding? Although they have plenty of beautiful beach property, the inner island has gorgeous mountain vistas and old plantations to set the scene for a perfect wedding complete with romantic Victorian-look formals or elegant cocktail dresses and heels for your attendants. Use the colors of the rainforest, bottomless greens with flashes of yellow and pink or the dark blue of twilight under the rainforest canopy.

There are so many dress choices to fit your needs, all you have to do is find the one that says you. Once you’ve got that covered, dressing your bridesmaids will be a cinch. Every bridesmaid is different, so make sure you find a dress flattering to all their body types. It will help them feel pretty and confident, which will help you shine on your wedding day.
