Tips & Advice
Along with your destination wedding, there’s always the inevitable bachelor/bachelorette parties to do, so why not make them a fun counterpart to your overall destination wedding theme? With a little planning and a lot of small touches, your bachelor/bachelorette party can be another wonderful memory of why you and your fiancé chose a destination wedding for your special day.
If a beach wedding is what you want, have your shower at a local pool and tell everyone to wear their favorite swimwear and flip-flops. Make your own invitations from sand dollars with the date, time and place printed on them, tied with tiny ribbon the color of your bridesmaid dresses. Or send a small gift box filled with sand and mini shells and a little message in a bottle with the pertinent details. Have a tub filled with ice and chill soda and beer, and serve barbeque or seafood to complete your party fare.
If you have a Hawaiian destination in mind, have a luau, complete with hula skirts and coconut bras. Tell your guests to come in wild Hawaiian shirts and shorts, and provide flower leis as each guest arrives. Send something pineapple as a shower invite (a whole pineapple, maybe, or a picture of a pineapple?), with a note providing details, or a pair of flip-flops with the date, time and place written on the soles. Serve fruity mixed drinks and mini cocktail wieners and bacon-wrapped goodies from a tiki bar festooned with tropical plants, flowers and coconuts.
For your Caribbean wedding affair, go tropical in bright colors and a sunny location, perhaps at a local park or someone’s big back yard. Have a pirate theme, complete with an invitation full of gold coins (or gold coin chocolate) or a pirate scarf or eye patch imprinted with your details. Have a treasure chest of booty for guests when they arrive – chocolate coins, candy and jewel-toned necklaces, eye patches for everyone, and an assortment of faux jewelry to dress up their party clothes. Drink grog from hardy toasting mugs and eat crusty crustaceans and delicious skewered fruits and veggies.
A Mexico wedding should be festive and fun, with guests dressed in short and sandals, and Mexican hats and scarves. Spicy finger foods like mini burritos, tacos and a tapas bar, along with cold Mexican beer or margaritas will get your guests in the party mood. A tiny cactus with a note containing party details is a cute way to invite them, or a cuddly stuffed donkey with a note tied around his neck. Have plenty of salsa and guacamole on hand, too, to serve with your great food picks.
A bachelor/bachelorette party shouldn’t be a chore, for your maid of honor, best man, you or your guests. There are lots of fun ideas for you and your wedding party to celebrate your upcoming nuptials, so make this part of your destination wedding planning. |
