Caribbean Destination Weddings
Elin Nordegren & Tiger Woods – St. James, Barbados, October 5, 2004
Tiger and Elin chose the ultra-luxe Sandy Lane Golf Resort (http://www.sandylane.com) for their Caribbean destination wedding. The resort is located on the west coast of Barbados and is a popular vacation spot for the rich and famous. The wedding was held at the 19th hole. Tiger wore a beige suit and Elin wore a sleeveless gown. The destination wedding ceremony was held at a white-netted pagoda with red roses. Approximately 120 guests watched them exchange their vows, including Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordan. The band Hooty and the Blowfish entertained guests at the tented wedding reception. Woods rented out the all 200 rooms at the resort, which range from $700-8,000 per night, according the hotel’s website. This luxury destination wedding reportedly cost $1.5M. The newlyweds spent two weeks on their 155ft yacht sailing the Caribbean for their honeymoon.
Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon – Eleuthera, Bahamas, April 30, 2008
Mariah and Nick chose the out island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas for their beach destination wedding. They married at sunset on the beach at her private estate. The wedding was intimate with a small group of family and friends attending as guests. Nick wore a cream tuxedo with a white, silk tie and Mariah wore a form fitting off-white gown with a short veil, and carried a bridal bouquet of white roses. A $2.5M ring followed their wedding, as well as matching tattoos to ink the deal. They stayed in the Bahamas for their honeymoon.
Mexico Destination Weddings
Heidi Klum & Seal – Costa Careyes, Mexico, May 10, 2005
Heidi and Seal were married in Seal’s private villa in Costa Careyes, which is located between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo on the Pacific Coast. Klum reportedly wore an ivory Vera Wang gown. Forty guests attended the destination ceremony and lively villa reception that followed, which included a serenade by Seal for his new bride. The couple reportedly honeymooned at a resort in Manzanillo.
Sarah Michelle Geller & Freddie Prinze Jr. – Costa Careyes, Mexico, September 1, 2002
Always dreamed of hosting a destination wedding like a celebrity. Well, now you can! Sarah Michelle and Freddie married at Mexico's El Careyes Beach Resort in Costa Careyes. The destination wedding festivities began with a Mexican fiesta rehearsal dinner of fish tacos and Corona. The following day was the wedding ceremony. Michelle wore a strapless off-white gown with a long veil and carried an assorted off-white flower bridal bouquet. Prinze wore a white linen suit. Approximately 60 wedding guests, including Wilmer Valderrama and Shannon Doherty, attended the nuptials. The couple stayed in Mexico for the honeymoon.
Hawaii & the South Pacific Destination Weddings
Bill Gates & Melinda French– Four Seasons in Lanai, January 1, 1994
When Bill and Melinda Gates married, they spared no expense on their destination wedding. Gates rented every hotel room (all 250 of them) at the Four Seasons resort in Lanai, Hawaii, as well as chartered every helicopter in the area. The wedding reportedly cost $1M and took place on the 12th tee of the Manele Bay Hotel golf course. Bill wore black slacks and a white jacket while Melinda wore a $10,000 white wedding gown made out of silk-faced organza. 130 guests, including Warren Buffett, attended the lavish wedding ceremony and reception. The Gates’ spent their honeymoon in Hawaii and Fiji.
Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott –Fiji, May 7, 2006
When Tori and Dean decided on a destination wedding, they opted for an intimate ceremony with just the two of them. The ceremony was held on the beach at the Wakaya Club in Fiji. Spelling and McDermott married barefoot on the beach and both wore all white. Following the wedding, they spent their honeymoon in Fiji. They then returned to California and held a post-wedding reception for family and friends to cap off their dream beach destination wedding.
