Cayman Islands Travel Tips

Tips for Traveling to the Cayman Islands for a Destination Wedding

The Cayman Islands are a wonderful destination wedding location. There are no residency requirements so even cruise ship couples can arrive and marry on the same day without a hassle. If you are flying, you won’t have to worry about jumping through hoops to get to the Cayman Islands as there are more than 55 weekly flights to Grand Cayman with connections to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.

Flight Times, Airlines, and Main Airports

The main airport of the Cayman Islands is Owen Roberts International Airport in Grand Cayman near George Town. The Gerrard Smith International Airport is located in Cayman Brac and the Edward Bodden Airfield serves Little Cayman, although a new airport was being built at the time of writing. Cayman Airways and American Airlines offer direct flights to Grand Cayman from Miami. Continental Airlines has direct flights to Grand Cayman from New York and Houston, Delta airlines has direct flights from Atlanta, and Northwest Airlines from Detroit and Minneapolis. Flight times from North America are relatively short, making the Cayman Islands a convenient destination wedding location. It takes about one hour to get to Grand Cayman from Miami and four hours from New York.

Entry Requirements

US citizens are not required to have a visa to travel to the Cayman Islands for stays of up to 30 days but they do need to have a valid passport, an onward/return ticket, and proof of sufficient funds for their stay. Oddly enough, entry can be refused for those who do not dress and behave appropriately.

Renting a Car in the Cayman Islands

It’s easy to get around by taxi and bus on Grand Cayman if you don’t plan on leaving the tourist area. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are so small that they do not have public transportation so renting a car is the only way you can get around. Renting a car is a great way to explore the islands for destination wedding guests who want to get away from all of the tourist traps. It’s very easy to rent a car in the Cayman Islands. You can either rent a car from an agency at the airport upon your arrival or you can have the car delivered to your hotel. The driver’s permit required to drive in the Cayman Islands costs $7.50 USD at the time of writing. You have to be at least 21 years-old to rent a car in the Cayman Islands. Hertz, Ace Rent a Car, and Avis all have offices at the Owen Roberts International Airport.

Destination Wedding Packages in the Cayman Islands

Whether you want to get married atop a limestone bluff with a panoramic view of the Caribbean in the backdrop, under a charming garden gazebo surrounded by lush tropical gardens, or on a white sand beach during a picturesque sunset, the Cayman Islands offers numerous options for destination wedding couples. You can consult with a wedding planner at a large resort or purchase a wedding package from a local wedding planning service. Grand Cayman Weddings and Cayman Weddings provide a number of destination wedding packages suitable for any couple. The Ritz Carlton on Grand Cayman and The Reef offer all-inclusive and world-class destination wedding packages.

Make no mistake about it. Destination wedding planning is a breeze in the Cayman Islands. The excellent infrastructure and lenient regulations make it easy for just about anyone to plan a hassle-free destination wedding there. You won’t have to worry about long flight times, strict entrance regulations or a dearth of wedding planning services in the Cayman Islands. It’s easier for both destination wedding couples and their guests to travel to the Cayman Islands because it is convenient to get to and it is one of the safest destination wedding locations in the Caribbean.
