Earth Day got everyone thinking about how they can do their part to help the environment (even if for just one day). You may be asking yourself how you can show your commitment to helping Mother Nature during your wedding. Here are some simple and beautiful ideas from other environmentally-friendly brides to get you started.
Steve & Michelle from Plano, Texas - "We had a big wedding with over 300 guests flying in from all the country. We knew that all those flights were going to have a big carbon footprint. So, as favors, we gave little sapling trees planted in orange terracotta mini-planters. Our guests brought them home and planted them in their yards. Now, over 300 trees are growing as a living reminder of our wedding!"
Mark & Lindsey from Sacramento, CA - "We tried to use only local elements in our wedding, including local food, wine, and flowers. We picked our caterer since they only cooked local, organic food. The flower centerpieces were potted poppies and we took them home afterward and planted them around our house."
Chris & Sara from Atlanta, Georgia - "We wanted to have a traditional wedding with all the flair. But, we also didn’t want to look back at our wedding and know that we hurt the environment. So, we looked for little ways to make our wedding green. For example, we still sent wedding invitations through the mail, but we only used one envelope instead of two. Also, we chose invitations from Crane & Co. made out of cotton, rather than paper. The invitations were gorgeous, and better for the environment."
